See Whale Sharks in Gladden Spit, Belize

North America

The UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Gladden Spit and the Silk Cayes Marine Reserve are just 40 kilometers off the south coast of Belize. Stay one of the cabanas in the sandy city of Placencia (“Pleasant Point”) for prime snorkeling and diving activities with whale sharks. Take a look at Placencia’s Sea Horse Dive Shop for some of the most popular tours.

Whale shark season is March to June and the best time to see whale sharks off the coast of Belize is in April and May, particularly a few days after the full moon. This is when the local snapper population spawns, so the whale sharks come to feast on the fish eggs.
